For May the 4th, Carrie Fisher of 'Star Wars' gets a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Today is a special day for Star Wars fans and for Hollywood. On May the 4th, also known as Star Wars day, the late Carrie Fisher was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures. Fisher, who played the iconic role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, passed away in 2016 at the age of 60.

The ceremony was attended by Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, who wore a dress featuring an image of her mother as Leia, and by Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker and was Fisher's "space twin" on screen. They were joined by some familiar Star Wars droids, such as R2-D2 and C-3PO, and by fans who cheered and applauded for their beloved princess.

Lourd gave an emotional speech, saying that Leia was more than just a character, but a feeling that people shared and passed on from generation to generation. She said she felt lucky that her children would get to know a piece of her mother through Leia, and that she couldn't wait to bring them to see her star when they were old enough .

Hamill also paid tribute to Fisher, calling her one-of-a-kind and a gorgeous, ferociously independent take-charge woman who took his breath away. He said she belonged to us all and that she was our princess .

Fisher's star is the 2,754th star to be unveiled on Hollywood Blvd and is located across the street from the star of her mother, Debbie Reynolds, who was also a legendary actor and singer. Reynolds died one day after Fisher in 2016 .

Fisher had a long and successful career as both an actress and a writer. She made her film debut in Shampoo in 1975 and went on to star in hits such as When Harry Met Sally and The Blues Brothers. She also wrote several books and memoirs, including Postcards from the Edge, which she adapted into a screenplay that earned her a BAFTA nomination .

But she will always be remembered as Princess Leia, the fearless leader of the Rebel Alliance who fought against the evil Empire and inspired millions of fans around the world. Her star on the Walk of Fame is a fitting tribute to her legacy and her impact on pop culture.
